| Fire Procedure |
The school holds a fire practice twice every term, once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
The school has three fire exits (upper hall exit, garden exit and lower hall exit). The designated fire marshal is Carole Montana and her deputy marshal is Lucy Haughian.
Upon suspicion of a fire or the need to evacuate in an emergency, the fire marshal will sound the fire bell and assess the situation. The directresses help to line the children up at the appropriate exit and lead out. There is a directress at each end of the queue and if applicable, one in the middle. No personal belongings are taken. The fire marshal then checks the bathroom and closes all doors, collects the register and is the last to leave the building.
The assembly points are against the wooden fence opposite the garden exit and against the back wall of the school next to the shed in the paved garden. Once the register is taken the children resume school activities as per normal. In the event of a real fire, the parents will be notified immediately via the school mobile phone.
All fire exits are clearly marked and extinguishers are checked yearly. The school is equipped with four fire extinguishers, a fire blanket, hand bell to alert (situated under the health and safety board in the classroom).
A record of the fire practice is logged in the ‘fire practice book’ after every drill. |
