| Food |
The school observes a STRICT NO NUTS POLICY. These include, hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans, pine nuts, peanut butter and pesto sauces. However, Hummus, chickpeas, sunflower and other seeds are permicable. Parents are advised to read all labels and packaging carefully for nut content, traces of nuts and expiry dates before packing the children’s lunch. This policy also extends to school parties and birthday celebrations where parents bring food in to share.
Nature walks – Children are closely monitored to ensure that they do not pick up or eat anything that will poison or harm them in any way.
Products – The content of products such as residential oils, shampoo, and conditioner, hand and body creams and lotions etc. could contain nut oils, parents should read labels carefully.
Kissing - Children are discouraged from kissing each other as close contact to a child with an allergy using or eaten nut produce could cause a reaction.
The school does not allow sweets, chocolate, crisps, soft drinks or chewing gum. We strongly recommend that parents do not pack foods with high sugar content for packed lunches.
Food Allergies must be documented on every child’s emergency forms so that staff can be informed and protect the children accordingly. A list of children and their specific requirements is posted in the kitchen at all times.
Snack
The school provides healthy snacks for children through out the day. These range from salad, dried and fresh fruit, rice cakes, popcorn, soups, smoothies, juices, hot and cold milk, water and hot cocoa in the winter months.
The school endeavours to use organic produce where ever possible and is currently looking into becoming completely organic. |
