Hygiene
General

The school has a cleaner that cleans the school at the end of every school day. The School floors are polished three times a week. During the nursery sessions, all work areas and eating surfaces are wiped clean with anti-bacterial by the teaching staff. The School Kitchen is kept clean at all times.

Staff must wash their hands

● As soon as they enter the school building
● After nappy changes
● After using the bathroom
● After working with materials
● Before handling any food, crockery or cutlery
● Before dealing with cuts, grazes or injuries

(Sterile gloves are worn when dealing with an open wound)

The children are shown how to wash their hands properly in the bathroom before snack and lunch times as well as after activities that leave them with dirty hands.

The snack area is checked periodically for dirty cups and plates. After snack and lunch, the children are shown how to wash up after themselves in the washing bowl and drainer provided. The crockery and cutlery are collected from this area and machine washed again.

Toilet & Bathroom

There are three low level lavatories and washbasins for thirty children to share. There are separate staff toilets and washbasins down stairs in the basement (access is by key only). These are equipped with sanitation disposal units, anti-bacterial soap, paper hand towels and disposal bins.

A nappy rota is kept and staff are provided with sterile disposable gloves and nappy wipes for nappy changes. There is a ‘Tommy Tippy’ nappy disposal unit, which is emptied daily.

The bathroom is well stocked with a supply of soap, toilet paper, hand towels and a waste paper bin for their disposal.

Cleaning Procedure

Rubber gloves and cleaning cloths are colour coded, a chart can be found in the office/kitchen where they are kept.

Yellow – Washing up, wiping tables/chairs/work surfaces. Use: Anti-bacterial spray

Green – Bathroom. Use: Anti-bacterial spray and bleach for toilets

Blue – Arts and crafts, paint and glue and general mess. Use: anti-bacterial spray, warm soapy water
